A 50th anniversary reunion has raised £1,000 for Overgate Hospice and Calderdale Hospital radio.

After local 60s band The Calderbeats reformed to play a charity gig, they found themselves reforming again to hand over the money raised.

The group played to a packed house at Heath Rugby Club.

Drummer Dave Meir said: “We were staggered at the amount of people who turned up to support us and were proud to raise such a significant amount. Everyone was extremely generous.

“We wanted to support Overgate, especially as Bruce Hemingway, who started rehearsing with us sadly became ill and died of cancer weeks before the gig. However, we were honoured to have Bruce’s daughter Mandy sing with us on the night.”
