It was lights, cameras, action in Halifax this week, as film crews and actors descended on the town for the third series of Last Tango.

The Upstairs Downstairs Cafe and Coffee House, on Market Street, and Shibden Mill Inn were some of the locations that starred in the upcoming season due to air in Autumn.

Crowds of people gathered around the busy Halifax street on Monday afternoon to try get a glimpse of the actors and actresses.

The drama, written by Sally Wainwright, will introduce Rupert Graves as a new character, best known for his role in Sherlock, to the set.

Tony Rialls, owner of Upstairs Downstairs Cafe and Coffee House, said: “There were a lot of people filming, about 50-60 cast and crew and loads of vans and equipment.

“It is quite exciting and it looked like an important scene.”

The filming is expected to continue around Calderdale in the coming weeks.

Earlier this week, Sally Wainwright, who was brought up in Sowerby Bridge, celebrated success for her other hit show ‘Happy Valley.’

The series was nominated for two awards at the TVChoice Awards in September.

The hit television programme, set in Calderdale, is up for Best New Drama and star Sarah Lancashire has been nominated for lead actress for her role as Sarah Cawood, the police sergeant.

Former Calderdale police chief Bob Bridgestock and his wife Carol were story consultants for the Happy Valley series and were in Hipperholme last Friday as a part of a series event to launch their new crime book ‘Reprobates.’
