Child-porn pervert is locked up

A HALIFAX paedophile has been jailed for 18 months for having more than 2,700 indecent images of boys on his computer.

Derek Duffy, 42, was convicted of 13 offences of possessing indecent photographs of children after a four-day trial last month.

On release, he will be subject to a three and a half year extended licence and a sexual offences prevention order was made to stop him being alone with children.

At Bradford Crown Court, Judge Jonathan Durham Hall QC branded Duffy's activities as "sordid."

He told him: "You have an intense and unshakeable interest in the company of under 16-year-old boys."

Duffy, of Highlands Lane, Halifax, was cleared of sexually abusing three schoolboys, now aged 21, 17 and 16.

He was acquitted of indecent assault, indecency with a child, sexual activity with a child, inciting a child to engage in sexual activity and attempting to pervert the course of justice.

The jury was directed to return a not guilty verdict on a further charge of indecency with a child.

The court heard that Duffy, a sheet-metal worker, had two previous convictions for sex offences.

The first was when he showed an adult porn film to two boys, the second for indecently assaulting a boy under 14.

James Ward, for Duffy, said he did not accept his guilt and was adamant the three boys downloaded the porn.

He said the boys had been put up to making the allegations by his former gay lover. The boys claimed they were groom-ed by Duffy, who gave them cash and cigarettes.

Detective Constable Brian Burke, the investigating officer, received a commendation from Judge Durham Hall.

The sentence was welcomed by Detective Sergeant Gary Stephenson, who said: "It reflects the serious nature of the offences."
