Improvements along Skircoat Road in Halifax have been taking place with the help of a community payback scheme.

The joint project between the Rotary Club of Halifax and Halifax in Bloom is designed to improve the town’s chances of winning at Yorkshire in Bloom and improve the area in time for the extra tourists expected for the Grand Depart.

John Seager, from the Rotary Club, said: “We’ve had a cross-section of society involved.

“We’re making a garden at both ends of the road, replacing the corrugated iron fencing with wood panel fences and the final phase will be a planting scheme.”
