It’s that time of year again as Halifax opens its shop doors late into the evening.

Customers made the most of those extra few hours after work and braced the cold winter air on Thursday night, when the 2011 late-night shopping season began.

Shoppers can now browse the stores of Halifax until 8pm every Thursday up until Christmas.

Michay Matthews, from Marketing Halifax, said: “Halifax has really got into the Christmas spirit this year! Shoppers will be treated to lots of festive fun from carol singing, brass band performances and appearances from Santa himself.”

For a chance to support the local farming community of Calderdale, the Christmas Market will appear at Halifax Minister on December 8.

And for a fun-filled day for all the family, the Winter Wonderland Fun Fair at the Piece Hall from December 16 until Christmas Eve is ideal.

Carols from the Halifax Symphony Orchestra will get you in the festive spirit on December 10.

With people’s purse-strings tightening since the recession, why waste money on the cost of fuel when there are a hoard of shops on your doorstep?

Tony Murray, general manager of Harveys in Halifax, said: “Halifax offers what everyone else sells but in fewer shops.

“We have always found in the past that people will travel to White Rose Shopping Centre or the Trafford Centre in early December then, closer to Christmas, they come and shop in Halifax.

“People always wonder why they didn’t come here in the first place.”

With more character and individual shops in places like the Piece Hall, Halifax has something to offer for everyone.

Mr Murray said: “We, at Harveys, offer a very personal service. We have free gift wrapping on every purchase in exchange for an optional small donation with proceedings going to local charities, including Project Challenge and Overgate Hospice, so you invest your money back into the community.”

As well as late night shopping on Thursdays, Harveys of Halifax will open until 8pm between December 21 and 23.

In the week leading up to the big day, shops will be open until 7pm, so there’s no excuse not to find the perfect gift.
