No disciplinary action will be taken against a fire crew who refused to go to a car fire because it fell during a period of strike action.
They were called to a report that a Ford Focus was on fire on the eastbound carriageway of the M62 between Rishworth Moor and Huddersfield at 11.48am on Friday, August 15.
Whilst en route to the incident, at 12.02pm, the Halifax crew refused to attend the incident and returned to the station because it fell during a Fire Brigade Union period of industrial action.
The fire was instead attended by a contingency crew.
West Yorkshire Fire Service immediately launched an investigation and a watch manager was facing disciplinary action. However he has since been told that he has “no case to answer”, said FBU secretary David Williams
He added: “It’s an emotional time and firefighters make snap decisions. But if there were people in that car they would have attended.”
