A dance student with the Stardom School of Performing Arts is set to jet off to Venezuela for a month-long expedition.

Sophie Rushworth, 16, will travel to the Amazon Rainforest for a four-day jungle trek before living with the Yekwana tribe for seven days.

Sophie has raised just over half of the £4,000 needed to fund the trip, and is hoping the school’s performance of Razzle Dazzle ‘Em 2014 at the Victoria Theatre will get her closer to her total.

She will be performing in the concert on Friday and Saturday night.

Sophie said: “I decided to go on this expedition to give something back to the community and discover new places and cultures that differ from ours.

“I hope to gain a lifetime experience, make new friendships and learn new skills.

“I will be partaking in their traditions while sharing some activities from England such as football.

“The trip will be physically and mentally challenging and I know that no matter what it will stay with me forever and will help to shape me as a person.

“I’ve been doing a lot of bake sales and raffles and busking playing my saxophone and would like to thank everyone who has supported me.”

Liz Davies, from Stardom, said: “The show features 200 children aged three upwards and is an extravaganza of song, dance and drama.

“We always perform with a live orchestra rather than using pre recorded music and this adds an extra dimension to our productions.

“Stardom has a reputation for staging high quality shows with fabulous performances, superb musical arrangements, professional lighting, stunning costumes, and fantastic production values.

“We have been rehearsing since October and our students are very excited.”
