A former Super League player from Halifax is tackling a new career after starting up his own business.
Elliot Hodgson was a full-back with the Huddersfield Giants, where he was named man-of-the-match on his debut in 2009, before choosing to end his contract and take a pay out which allowed him to train in plumbing and heating.
Last year, the 23-year-old joined a New Enterprise Allowance scheme run by the West Yorkshire Enterprise Agency which gives those out of work the opportunity to get support to start their own business.
Elliot is now considering employing someone else to support him growing the business, which he says is thriving.
He said: “It was a bit slow in the first six months and I only had one or two days’ work but the New Enterprise Allowance I received really kept my business going and things are now really positive.
“I now have work every day and I’m booked up for a few months.
“I have even had to start sub-contracting odd bits of work because I’m too busy to do it myself.”
