Members of Calderdale Save Our Service (SOS) lobbied group members on their way into the meeting, handing out leaflets to voice their fears of future privatisation of services.

They highlighted the recent decision to award Virgin Healthcare part of the dermatology service in Calderdale as an example.

Dr Alan Brook, CCG chairman, said at the meeting they had tendered for the service. “Virgin Healthcare would provide greater outcomes for patients and achieved the highest score in the tendering process. It will continue to be an NHS service, although Virgin Healthcare will be maintaining it. They will be facilitating local clinicans to deliver the care. It’s certainly not something being taken outside the NHS.”
