A team of firefighters from West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service are using their pedal power by cycling from Todmorden station to their twin town of Bramsche in Germany for charity.

Ten firefighters will make the 650-mile trip on July 8, two days after the Tour de France has come through Calderdale.

The team will see firefighters ride in pairs on a rota system, travelling non-stop through France, Belgium and Holland before reaching Germany.

The cyclists are hoping to complete the challenge within three days and are aiming to raise £3,000 for Save the Children, Yorkshire Air Ambulance and the Fire Fighters Charity.

Watch Commander for Todmorden, Carl Fielden, said: “It’s going to be a tough challenge and we really hope the weather holds out.”

Castle Hill School in Todmorden have donated £200 while Walsden Primary School, also in Todmorden, have raised £400.
