The daughter of former Halifax Rugby Union Club fixtures secretary David Pickles says she is ‘really touched’ by her boyfriend’s fundraising efforts for Cancer Research.
Mr Pickles died last year after a three-and-a-half year battle with prostate cancer.
Now his daughter Anna’s partner Gareth Wilson is taking part in a 113-mile trail race along tough terrain on the East coast on May 24, and has already raised more than £2,200.
Anna said: “Gareth thought a lot of my dad and he’s always wanted to do one of these challenges as he’s a marathon runner anyway.
“My mum was really worried when he first suggested it but I was really touched - it’s such a lovely gesture.
“It’s an amazing challenge for someone to take on.
“He’s done a couple of 50 mile practice runs already.
“He wanted to raise £1,000 but dad’s old company Caravan Guard sponsored him for £500 alone.”
