Gay sex at M62 toilets

POLICE are stepping up patrols at a service station where groups of men are having sex in the toilets. Men are using the toilets on both sides of the M62 to take part in "lewd activities".

Officers are working with staff at Hartshead Moor to tackle the problem before it escalates.

Brighouse Sergeant Andy Wilkinson said there had been incidents in the past and they appeared to be on the increase again.

"Groups of men are congregating there and engaging in lewd activities. We have put on extra patrols to work with security staff at the service station," he said.

Hartshead's dedicated police community support officer Elaine McGuinness said a member of staff had disturbed two men in a cubicle together.

"On another occasion a colleague and I had been standing watch outside the men's toilets. We saw some people go in for quite some time and asked a security guard to go in and check what they were up to. As a result the men were evicted."

Chris Taylor, general manager at Hartshead, said they were being pro-active rather than reactive by stepping up patrols.

"We want to send out a clear message that we won't stand for this behaviour."
