Fresh plans have been announced for a £1.3 million swimming pool, gym and aerobic dance studio in Mytholmroyd.

The proposal for Mytholmroyd Community Centre has been put forward by Hebden Royd and District Swimming Pool Committee, who are confident that the district’s 80-year wait for a community swimming pool is coming to an end.

The group has a pot of £950,000 for the Royd Pool and Fitness Centre and is looking to raise another £300,000 from local residents in order to avoid having to get a bank loan.

There will be a chance to view the “prestige pool and leisure development” at Mytholmroyd Community Centre, Caldene Avenue, at either 4pm or 7pm on Wednesday, March 27. The committee has applied to Calderdale Council for planning permission. Secretary Coun Richard Marshall (Cons, Ludd Foot) it might be completed this year.
