Forecasters said disruption to transport and power supplies is possible due to the wind.

It will be a windy and cold day for everyone with gusts of 60-70mph.

Squally showers and brighter spells are also forecast.

Tonight, the strong winds will ease, and the showers will become fewer with clear spells developing.

It will be quite chilly but temperatures should stay above freezing.

The Environment Agency is warning of flooding across southern England.

“It is possible that heavy rain may worsen the current flooding situation in some areas with rivers responding quickly to rain falling on already saturated ground,” said a spokesperson.

The Grand Central service from Calderdale to Kings Cross is suspended due to engineering works.

Several companies including Northern Rail have reported disruption to services due to weather conditions.

A replacement bus service is running on Northern Rail between Hebden Bridge and Burnley Manchester Road due to engineering works.
