One lot of 30,000 books went under the hammer at the Halifax Piece Hall today.(Mon)

Bidding started at £2 and quickly climbed to £5,100 with a telephone bidder securing the sale.

The books will now be shipped overseas.

Robert Johnston, who witnessed the bidding at his Piece Hall shop, said he was delighted with the result, and the efforts of auctioneer Gary Don, of Leeds.
