Halifax book shop helps with push to get kids reading

A Halifax book store is hoping to help create scores of new young bookworms during next week’s World Book Day.

Fred Wade, on Rawson Street, will be urging youngsters to either swap their World Book Day vouchers for one of eight selected titles or use it for money off any other book.
Manager at the store Caroline Pell will also be visiting 15 schools in Calderdale with books for youngsters.
She said they wanted to sponsor World Book Day in Calderdale - which is next Thursday - to encourage more children to read.
“A lot of children have never had a book of their own,” she said. “This scheme means they will all have a book of their own that they can keep.”
