A Halifax man hit the right note with Royalty.

Composer Steve Copley wrote a special royal composition for HRH Prince Charles and Camilla Duchess of Cornwall which was performed by Sistema in Norwich Children’s Chamber Group at Sandringham, yesterday.

It was the first time that Sandringham Flower Show has featured children performing music at the Royal Estate in Norfolk.

Children performed ‘Rainstorm’; a piece of music specially composed for the occassion by the children and the Halifax composer who is director of music and education at the Sistema in Norwich.

The melodic youngsters performed for the Royal Party as they passed through the Royal Marquee - where the ‘Tune in with Nature’ garden incorporates planting and music.

Steve walked through the gardens with HRH Prince Charles of Wales, Camilla Duchess of Cornwall, Dame Judi Dench and Dame Maggie Smith - explaining the relevance of the composition.

Sistema in Norwich’s director, Mr Copley, said: “We’re delighted to have been given this opportunity to perform at such a special occassion.

“Sistema Norwich provides a life changing experience for hundreds of children who would never have had the opportunity to play in an orchestra or perform at events such as Sandringham. It has been an honour and a privilege to compose a piece for the Royal Family and I’m very proud to be part of this magical day.”

A framed copy of the composition was presented to Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cambridge.

Steve is a former pupil of the former Haugh Shaw Secondary, Halifax.

Sistema in Norwich is a programme that seeks to improve the wellbeing and prospects for young people through participation in music.
