Dorothy Jefferies turned 100 yesterday and to celebrate her family and friends gathered for a party at Sandholme Fold Care Home.
Dorothy was born in Northumberland before moving to Pateley Bridge, Harrogate, where she married Ian and had two children Elaine and David.
During her time at Pateley Bridge she worked in a pharmacy but had to give it up after her son David was born with Downs Syndrome.
She became his carer and they moved to Bath and Bristol before moving to Hipperholme in the 1960s. Dorothy has three grandchildren, Robert, Jayne and Lindsey and has five great grandchildren. Forty years ago she suffered a stroke and after her husband died eight years ago she has been living with daughter Elaine and her husband Terry, also in Hipperholme.
Elaine said: “I think her secret is she is well looked after by her family. She has been limited by what she can do by her stroke but she does like to read.”
