Help to stop the blight of fly-tipping in beauty spots

Residents and visitors to the beautiful moors above the village were horrified to find that stacks of household items, including sofas and a fridge, had been dumped on the roadside last week.

Now Scott Trickett, Hebden Royd Town councillor for Cragg Vale, has slammed the perpetrators of the crime and is urging people to be vigilant.

He said: “This dumping of waste in our area has left people disgusted. The moors above Cragg Vale are an area of truly outstanding natural beauty, and together with the longest hill are reasons why Cragg Vale was included in the Le Tour international cycling event.

“We now see significant visitors from outside the area. People are understandably extremely proud of the area we live in the wider interest in our area which has been generated.

“Local residents and people passing through are being urged to keep a watchful eye on suspicious vehicles in the area.

“This occasion we have see what appears to be multiple loads occurring at the same time, probably from one operator.”

Cragg Vale residents have been monitoring and reporting these cases to Calderdale Council’s environmental health department.

Hebden Royd Town Councl has asked that if anybody travelling along Blackstone Edge Road, from Blackstone Edge Reservoir down into Cragg Vale, notices any suspicious vehicles or fly-tipping, they provide Calderdale Council’s environmental health department with the details, or contact Emma at Hebden Royd Town Council on 01422 842181.
