HORSE MEAT UPDATE: Three men released on police bail

East Hey Farm, Hey Head Lane, Todmorden.

East Hey Farm, Hey Head Lane, Todmorden.

Three men arrested on suspicion of offences under the fraud act have been released on bail pending further enquires.

The men, one aged 63 from Todmorden, and two others aged 64 and 42 from Aberystwyth were arrested on Thursday on suspicion of fraud, as a result of the Food Standards Agency’s investigation into the use of horse meat in the food chain.

Officers, meanwhile, remained at Farmbox Meats near Aberystwyth throughout the day yesterday, and inquiries there are set to continue.

Elsewhere seizures of evidence also took place in Hull and London yesterday.

The Food Standards Agency said officers entered three premises with local authorities and the police; one was in Hull and two in Tottenham.

Computers and documentary evidence has been removed as well as meat samples that have been taken for testing.

The FSA has continued to provide information to Europol and this information has now been analysed by both Europol and law enforcement agencies in 35 countries – across Europe and elsewhere.
