The public appeal to build a sixth form and community site for Calderdale’s only special high school is taking shape in the form of bricks.

Ravenscliffe High School, Halifax, has asked pupils, parents and Calderdale to ‘Buy a Brick for Ravenscliffe’ to help raise some of the £1.5million needed to fund the construction of a new sixth form and community centre at nearby Spring Hall, Huddersfield Road.

In the first two month’s of the ‘Buy a Brick’ scheme the school has raised over £37,000 towards Ravenscliffe@Spring Hall.

Pupils, parents and individuals from across Calderdale have purchased bricks at £10, £20, or £30 each added to cornerstone and keystone donations have raised the total so far towards Ravenscliffe @SpringHall.

Pupils Lucy Lowther, Luke Richardson, Josh Hutchinson, Oliver King, Connor Hardy, Cheryl Benson, Kate Grant and Trish Hoyle, pictured, have all bought a brick.

Headteacher Martin Moorman said: “We’re really grateful for all the support we have received so far. It really demonstrates the support that the community has for Ravenscliffe and also highlights the need for the community facilities that Ravenscliffe@SpringHall will provide.

“We are now seeking donations from the wider community. If you think you, or your business, can support this fantastic cause - please get in touch with the school.”

Ravenscliffe’s school population of 139 students has outgrown its Skircoat Green site which comfortably accommodates 69 students.

Calderdale Council has said it will fund half of £3m needed for construction.

How you can help build the Spring Hall dream

Buy a Brick for Ravenscliffe aims to raise £100,000 towards making the Spring Hall sixth form dream a reality.

Bronze, silver, or gold bricks can be purchased for £10, £20, and £30 - or higher ‘keystone’ or ‘cornerstone’ donations can be made.

You can help in other ways: companies can make Ravenscliffe their charity of the year; take part in the school’s community challenge - swimming, running, cycling in a two-day sponsored event; or go to the school’s Spring Ball for Spring Hall at the Venue, Barkisland, on June 6.
