Huddersfield University says it is seeing record numbers of applicants using its Clearing system.
The university has assigned 50 staff on its Clearing hotline plus an additional 45 academic support staff to advise students as they try to get onto university courses.
Julie Pink, head of school and colleges liaison, said: “We’ve been incredibly busy this year - significantly busier than last year.
“The advice would be to keep trying, because students are going to find that universities are going to be engaged - they need to be patient.
“Every university’s vacancies are on the UCAS website, and on the individual university’s website.
“The students need to make the phone-calls themselves - not the parents or teachers - we need to speak to the students directly.”
