The head office of the former Halifax Building Society has been given Grade II listed status by English Heritage.
The striking building on Trinity Road, Halifax, was opened by the Queen in 1974 and stands out in the town’s skyline.
Likened to an ocean liner in the past the building was praised for its “bold and clever design”.
It was part of a wider survey by English Heritage which also saw the Borough Market upgraded from Grade II, given in 1973, to Grade II*.
