BROTHERS Tom and Ed Croft were crowned winners of the national Musical Comedy Awards at the New Players’ Theatre, London.

The pair, originally from Todmorden, are known as Jollyboat - singing pirates - who put their own words to tunes.

They started performing at the Stubbing Wharf, Hebden Bridge, before moving to Liverpool.

“I cried on stage. Neil Morrissey my childhood hero shook my hand,” said Tom.

Jollyboat picked up the £500 top prize and will have an iTunes album of their material produced.

Last year they appeared at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and have since appeared at stand-up comedy clubs across the north and in London.

“It has all happened amazingly fast,” said Ed.

“We have gone from back rooms of pubs to the West End in less than a year.”

Jollyboat hope to next perform in the Calder Valley in the summer.
