MP vows to tackle assaults on police

'Assaults on our dedicated police officers are unacceptable and should not be tolerated.'

That’s the message from Halifax MP Holly Lynch in the wake of ANOTHER assault on a police officer in the town last weekend.

Ms Lynch said: “Having recently spent a shift with Halifax police and seen the dangers they are facing for myself, I have applied for an urgent debate in Westminster to raise this issue.

The latest incident happened as officers from the Safer Roads and Neighbourhood Support team arrested a 42-year-old man in Halifax on suspicion of theft on Saturday. During the arrest, it is alleged that an officer was assaulted and suffered an injury to his finger. The man was then arrested over the incident.

Sergeant Penny Robinson said: “Any assault on a police officer is treated very seriously and enquiries into this matter are continuing.”

The assault follows an incident on August 28, which left a male and a female officer with cuts and bruises.
