A Queensbury School pupil will have the honour of cutting the ribbon at the site of a new housing development when the winner of a competition at the school is named.

All 1,037 students put forward suggestions to choose the name of the new housing development on Brighouse Road.

The shortlisted names are Hill Top Estate, Queens Mount Valley, Wool Cross Lane, Queens Head Park and Causeway End.

Assistant head Christine Lear said: “The children are getting excited now – it won’t be long before one of them is able to stand tall and say they are responsible for naming a local residential area, housing over 100 families.”

Ross Clarkson, regional sales manager for developers Bellway Yorkshire, said: “The suggestions were all interesting and it’s clear they have put a lot of thought and effort in.”
