Drivers of electric cars could be offered free parking in council car parks if proposals are backed at Calderdale Council’s Cabinet meeting on Monday, April 28.
The plans are a part of a wider package of proposals which have been recommended to boost Calderdale’s ‘green economy’.
The recommendations were put together by a cross-party group of councillors chaired by Councillor James Baker (Warley, Lib Dem) and Jenny Lynn (Park, Lab).
The proposals include measures to provide support for local businesses involved in ‘green’ industries, such as those working on sustainable energy.
There are recommendations that schools be given support to become more efficient and that Halifax’s new Central Library be built with energy efficiency in mind.
The recommendations also call for Cabinet to back an ‘Invest to Save’ initiative which will see money being invested in green projects in the short-term in order to make savings over time.
