Calderdale Foyer’s Open Talent session saw more than 30 young people learn more about how they can fulfil their untapped potential.

The Foyer has received £7,000 of funding to provide activities and opportunities for young people from disadvantaged backgrounds in Calderdale.

The launch day was held at the Heath Training and Development Centre and included a talk by former Great Britain basketball player Carl Miller.

Roxanne Bahri, from Calderdale Foyer, said: “It was fantastic, there was a good turnout and I think it went better than anyone expected.

“The first half of the day was an activity session, a bit of fun to get everyone from different organisations working together.

“Then Carl explained to everyone what the project was about and got everyone geared up for it.

“Now we’re planning to use the funding to improve our facilities, converting two spare rooms into a study space for students and a room for young parents to use.

“The young people designed and planned it. It’s their space so it will have what they want in it.”
