The mother of a 17-year-old boy killed in a speeding car has handed in her petition calling for the re-opening of the case at Downing Street.

Linda Hawker, whose son Daniel Atkinson, from Huddersfield, died in 2006 with his friend Jade Rice, also 17, of Savile Park, when a speeding car driven by their care worker, Mohammed Tanwir, smashed into a lamp post in Bradley, near Brighouse.

She has been campaigning across the region for support for her petition calling on Mr Tanwir to be prosecuted and has now delivered it to Number 10.

She said: “It went really well. It’s just a case of waiting for confirmation from the Ministry of Justice that they’ve received it.

“We’ve asked for the release of all the files and the re-opening of the case so we’ve got to wait for their response.

“We got 2,260 signatures so I’d like to thank everyone who signed it and all Daniel’s friends who came every Saturday and stood in the town centres and collected signatures.

“I’d also like to thank our barrister Naeem Siras - we couldn’t have done it without him.”
