Police are appealing for witnesses to an accident in Leeds yesterday (Friday) in which a 23-year-old local man died.

The incident occurred at around 3.52pm at the junction between Chapeltown Road and Barrack Road when a white Honda Civic left the road and collided with a lamp post.

The 23-year-old driver of the vehicle was taken to Leeds General Infirmary but died a short time later.

A male passenger was also taken to hospital but his injuries are not thought to be life threatening.

Anyone witnessing the collision or the seeing the Honda being driven down Barrack Road towards the Chapeltown Road junction are asked to contact PC 3503 Andrew Fitzpatrick in the Eastern Area Roads Policing Unit based at Killingbeck Police Station via: 101.
