It’s time to raise a cup and some cash in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support, who are holding coffee mornings across the region today.
The event is the charity’s biggest fundraiser and raised a record £15 million last year, with more than £350,000 already raised this year.
The Cedar Court Hotel at Ainley Top are putting a spin on their event by opening up to families and having a teddy bear’s picnic.
Staff at the Salvation Bar in Halifax have been baking cakes and buns for their coffee morning, while CC & Viyella staff at Harvey’s department store are also doing their bit for the cause with games including guess the name of the knitted monkey and number of coffee beans in the jar.
The Milestone in Ripponden is offering tea, coffee and cakes galore at their Macmillan event, while the Marks and Spencer cafe at Woolshops will be donating 50p to the cause for every coffee sold.
The Holiday Inn at Brighouse is also staging a coffee morning, while children at Burnley Road Academy will be dressing up as Roald Dahl characters for the day.
One event that has already taken place is the coffee morning at Greetland Community Centre, which featured a barbecue, 20 stalls, raffles and face painting.
Organiser Allison Tempest said: “My dad suffered with cancer and I lost my nan to it but it touches so many lives.
“We’ve raised over £2,000. I feel really overwhelmed by the support I’ve had.”
