The Rotary Club of Halifax held their first Primary School Quiz at The Shay Stadium. It was a resounding success with ten schools entering sixteen teams of four pupils and over 170 supporters and Rotarians enjoying the evening.

The primary schools represented were All Saints C of E, Barkisland C of E, Bowling Green, Holy Trinity Primary C of E Academy, Salterhebble, Salterlee Primary School, Savile Park, Siddal, St Augustines C of E and West Vale.

Question master Rotarian Neil Crossley put the competitors through ten rounds covering a wide variety of questions. It was a hard fought contest won by a team from Barkisland C of E Primary School aptly calling themselves “Brainy Barki Kids” with a score of 98 points out of a possible 120, a close second with 97 points was a team called “The Mallets” from Bowling Green Junior and Infants School and in third place was a team from All Saints C of E Junior & Infants School with a score of 94 points. All other teams were not far behind in a high scoring competition which goes to show our local schools must be doing a good job in giving these children such widespread knowledge.

Rotary President Peter Lloyd presented the winners with a trophy which the school will hold for twelve months, and the first three teams were all given medals, and cheques for the school.
