Dr Steve Bagley, who lives in Todmorden, and works at the Cancer Research UK Manchester Institute, met with designers to explain his research and provided research images for background inspiration.

The exhibition is now on display in Manchester as part of a project aiming to bring Cancer Research UK’s work to life like never before.

Dr Bagley, who visited the exhibition and met cancer patients who were also involved in the project, said: “It’s really interesting to see our work presented in this way.

“I think as scientists it is important to go out to people to explain what we do and this is a great way we can make our work more accessible.”

Each beautiful scarf, dazzling textile and weaving on display tells a story of cancer research or explains a patient’s treatment.

Sive Finlay, Research Engagement Manager at Cancer Research UK Manchester Institute, based at The University of Manchester, said: “We are bringing cancer research to life like never before to celebrate the pioneering progress in helping to beat cancer sooner!”

The exhibition runs at Craft and Design, the Northern Quarter from Saturday 23 July until Friday 29th July. For more information visit www.craftanddesign.com/events/fabric-of-research
