A new community group in Shelf is encouraging residents to join them and help improve the area.

The Shelf and District Community Group, which includes Coley and Stone Chair, isseeking new members before outlining its priorities for the village.

Chairman Eileen Hoare said: “In autumn 2013, a meeting was held primarily to discuss the issue of traveller caravans on Shelf Hall Park.

“At this meeting interest was expressed in creating a community group with wider interests.

“Further village meetings took place and with the support of officers from the N&E Halifax Wards Forum Team and Sector Support Calderdale, the group was formed in early February 2014.

“We are a working on setting up the structure of the group then once established, will focus on priorities.

“Anyone aged 16 or over or from any group or business in the area are invited to come to our regular meetings throughout the year.

“The meetings are an excellent opportunity to decide what is wanted for the community and the environment, to bring up concerns about local matters and to contribute to making improvements.”

The next meeting will be held at St John’s Church Hall, Coley on Tuesday 25th March at 6.30 pm.
