The Elland Youth Silver Band were presented with a special yellow baton as part of the special Tour de Brass concerts in the build-up to this year’s Grand Depart.

Cyclist Peter Firth, who plays euphonium in the youth band, presented the baton to fellow band member Danny Brooks during one of their regular practice sessions.

The Youth Band, which is widely regarded as one of the best in the country, is celebrating its 20th anniversary with a concert at Central Methodist Church, Brighouse on Saturday 21 June at 7.30pm as part of the Tour de Brass. The concert, which will also showcase the Beginners Band and Training Band, will be conducted with the yellow baton by Samantha Harrison.

Elland Silver Band, senior band in the Elland family of bands, is also taking part in the Tour de Brass with a concert at Ilkley bandstand on Sunday 22 June from 2.30 to 4.30pm.

The yellow batons, which have been specially crafted by York tuba player Pat Hunter, are being transported to the brass bands by individual riders for the concerts, which take place over the weekend of 21 and 22 June.
