The sky’s the limit for five mountaineers about to ascend the world’s tallest freestanding mountain for a charity close to their hearts.

All five hold the hospice close to their hearts with either having had family members cared for there, knowing volunteers there and the incredible work they do or, as in the case of Marj, a Halifax post lady, having suffered with cancer herself and recognising the important work the hospice does.

In 2013, Mr Holroyd lost his terminally ill father, Stuart Holroyd, pictured here just before leaving for one of his ‘expeditions’.

He said: “The respite care my father received at Overgate was exceptional - given with professionalism, warmth, humour, kindness, dignity and love. Staff and volunteers didn’t just provide my father with care; they supported the whole family through a difficult time.”

Michael and the rest of the fundraisers hope the climb will raise funds towards the cost of care the hospice provides.

Overgate Hospice’s Laura Whitham said: “It really means a lot to us here at the Hospice when people go to such lengths to raise money for us! Our running costs have reached £6,900 a day and we are finding it increasingly difficult to hit these figures so any help is warmly welcomed!”

The group have already raised an impressive £5,000 and hope to reach their £6,000 target. To donate see justgiving.com/halifax-wayfers2014 or text 7007 with TKWF90 and your amount.
