A couple from Queensbury have celebrated their diamond wedding anniversary with a special party with 80 of their family and friends.
Roy and Margaret Whitham met a dance in Queensbury after Margaret had been named Miss Queensbury.
The couple were married on August 14 1954 at Queensbury Parish Church and spent a week in Blackpool for their honeymoon.
Margaret, 79, spent most of her career working for Marks and Spencer before running her own coffee shop while Roy, 82, worked for Oldfield and Schofield in Boothtown.
They have four children, Ann, Christine, Howard and David, and five grandchildren, Sally, Jenny, Sarah, Jonathan and Oliver.
Margaret said: “It’s been a very, very busy marriage.
“We’ve spent most of our time bringing up our children, trying to get enough money together to take them on holidays.
“We started out with a motorbike, then got a side-car but ended up with a car when all the children came along.
“We’ve had good times and fraught times.
“But I couldn’t have done it without Roy, He’s always been there for me, I wouldn’t swap him for anyone.”
