UPDATED: Weather latest - snow expected to get heavier this evening

Light snow has been falling on Calderdale this afternoon but is expected to become heavier this evening.

Forecasters have said heavy snow is due to fall by 6pm this evening, with temperatures dropping -3°C - but will feel like -9°C.

It is predicted it will return to light snow by 9pm.

There are no reported probems due to the weather across Calderdale at the moment.

A yellow warning for snow has been issued by The Met Office across Calderdale throughout today, tonight and all weekend.

The Met Office is predicting the snow could keep falling until Wednesday.

It says blizzards are likely on higher ground and Yorkshire could see up to 10cm of snow,

Sub-zero temperatures will continue, not expecting to reach above zero degrees today.

Northern Rail is advising passengers to check the latest information available before they travel this evening and to allow more time than usual to complete their journey.

Although they say they anticipate running a normal service today, they are urging our passengers to check www.nationalrail.co.uk or www.journeycheck.com/northernrail before travelling as there is the possibility of disruption.

Passengers are also being advised to wear warm clothing, suitable footwear and carry a fully charged mobile if possible, in case delays occur as a result of the weather.

They are also urging people to check before they travel this weekend.

Disruption to flights are being reported to and from Leeds Bradford Airport due to snow. Passengers are being advised to check the status of their flight with their airline.
