Ovenden Phoenix have thrashed the West Yorkshire Fire Service team in a charity match to mark the beginning of the season.
It was one goal after another for the Ovenden side, as they walked away with an 8-1 victory.
Firefighters from all over the borough turned up to try their chances of scoring a goal but were outpaced.
The newly formed team were presented with a trophy to mark the beginning of a hopeful season, that begins on August 31.
The 45-man training team, aged 16 - 25, from Illingworth, Ovenden and Mixenden was formed earlier this year after the Ovenden and Mixenden Initiative approached the young men that had been using football pitches without permission, often finding themselves in trouble.
Since then, the “crime rate has gone down”, says Dom Furby, Station Commander of Illingworth, Todmorden and Mytholmroyd.
“It is going really well and I cannot wait to see what they do this season,” Dom added.
