Calderdale Ramblers enjoyed a nine-mile walk led by Fred Goonoo last weekend which took them from Clough Foot near Widdop to Hardcastle Crags

The hikers strode across the moors to Walshaw Dean reservoirs along part of the Pennine Way before reaching the National Trust’s Hebden Bridge beauty spot Hardcastle Crags, where the group had lunch at Gibson Mill before ascending up to a ridge walk back along the moors.

Judy Gannon, from the group, said: “The weather was super and great views were had as well as sights and sounds of curlews, grouse and other moorland birds.”

The next Ovenden Health Walks take place on March 17 and March 31, setting off from Beechwood Medical Centre, Keighley Road, Ovenden, Halifax, at 1pm.

There are also Calderdale Heritage Walks taking place on Saturday, March 15, looking at work and play in Hebden Bridge in the 1920s and 30s. Meet Justine Wyatt by the statue in St. George’s Square, Hebden Bridge, at 2pm.

On Sunday, March 30, there is a walk exploring the waterside areas where Brighouse meets Rastrick. Meet Margaret Sharp by the Assembly Rooms carpark, Briggate, Brighouse at 2pm.

If you are a local walking group and are planning any treks around the district, tell us all about them. Send details of your forthcoming guided walks or pictures and reports of your rambles. Email to newsdesk@halifaxcourier.co.uk.
