John Edwards expects that live-streaming his time underground and speaking to people who have suicidal thoughts will help to prevent unnecessary deaths.

He said: “People will communicate with me how they have overcome trauma, suicide attempts, addiction to substance and behaviour.

“We will together bring words of life from the grave.”

Mr Edwards, 61, formed the charity Walking Free after experiences with drug addiction, stints in rehab and homelessness.

He said: “I’ve had a liver transplant, cancer twice, 41 pints of blood transfused last year to keep me alive. Now I’m recovered from all illness and got my strength back. I’m determined to leave a legacy of hope.”

Mr Edward, of East Morton, Bingley, will begin at 8pm tomorrow (Friday) by the Threeways Centre in Ovenden and plans to spend at least three days underground but may stay for up to 10.

A team will be on hand to support him and he will receive food and water through a pipe. A second pipe will be connected to a caravan toilet.

The coffin is 8ft long, 3.5ft high and 4ft wide. WATCH HERE
