HALIFAX can now officially boast its status as a Minster town.
A service led by the Bishop of Wakefield, Stephen Platten, marked the change in status from St John's Parish Church to the Minster Church of St John the Baptist, Halifax – or Halifax Minister.
A civic party led by the Mayor of Calderdale, Arshad Mahmood, and Deputy Mayor Nader Fekri made its way from the town hall to the church before town crier Les Cutts read a declaration at the service.
The Lord Lieutenant, Ingrid Roscoe, and High Sheriff of West Yorkshire John Burton also attended.
