A youngster at Parkinson Lane Primary School, Halifax, has been crowned Calderdale Super Brain 2014.

Brainy Zaynah Khalil, aged 10, won the contest involving children from over 40 local primary schools organised by Park Lane Learning Trust, Exley.

The competition tested youngsters on a variety of subjects including spelling, maths, logic, general knowledge and model building, before the finals were held at the University of Huddersfield.

Zaynah’s subject for the strongly fought debating round was ‘Should beauty contests be banned’? and she took the trophy.

She is pictured with runners up Finlay Verry and Dhanish Nawaz.
