Calderdale councillor joins Halifax Town Supporters' Trust board

A CALDERDALE councillor has joined efforts to keep football in Halifax.

Town fan Roger Taylor has accepted an invitation to join the Halifax Town Supporters' Trust board.

He said all supporters wanted to see a team playing next season.

"I would like to see what the consortium's intentions are," said Coun Taylor (Con, Northowram and Shelf).

"My worry is the lack of information from the consortium.

"If it has plans, let us see what they are.

"If the consortium are not going to be involved we have to start from scratch."

Councillor Taylor said a club backed by the consortium was likely to be the best way forward but a "plan B" being worked up by the trust for a fans' owned club was necessary.

"I do know the trust has put a lot of work into that," he said.

Club vice-president Jack Haymer has also joined the trust board.

He also thinks the consortium is the best bet but said a lot depends on the views of the Football Association.

Mr Haymer said the financial backing being given to the club by the consortium - it is still paying wages - might have a bearing on any final decision by the FA which is currently looking at finance and ground eligibility issues at other clubs.

"The consortium has not walked away, and is still bank rolling the club in an endeavor to keep the name and obtain a position as high as possible in the non league pyramid. I feel it is important that they find someway of improving the communication to club supporters who want to help."

He said "plan B" was essential and may yet prove the lifeline to keep football at the Shay but he was saddened at the criticism levelled at those trust members working to secure a future for Halifax Town.

Four members of the trust recently resigned as opinions have become divided over the future direction of the club.
