Campaigning pensioner dies aged 89

A woman who spent two decades campaigning for Calderdale’s elderly has died.

Jannette Parsons passed away in Dorset County Hospital and had lived in the county since 2010.

Before then, she was president of Calderdale Pensioners’ Association and led several campaigns to protect elderly people’s interests.

She had been a member of the association since its formation in 1991.

Her tireless work resulted in her being presented with a gold medal from the Duke of Edinburgh at St James’s Palace, London.

She leaves a daughter Joanna, two grandchildren, one great grandchild and a sister.

Her funeral is today (Friday, 2.30 pm) at Weymouth Crematorium.
