A CARER from Halifax has been nominated for a top award after just 14 weeks in the job.
Katelan Denton, 20, works for Allied Healthcare in Halifax as a carer after she left her previous job working in a freezer shop.
After impressing her new bosses with her skills and manner, she has now been named a finalist in the Newcomer category at the 2011 Great Yorkshire and Humberside Care Awards.
Her boss Theresa Comstive said: “Katelan came to us from a non-care background and she has just excelled in such a short space of time. She has a good rapport with clients and her co-workers.
“We’re over the moon she’s a finalist. She’s a really genuine, down to earth person and really does deserve some acknowledgement of how well she’s done and how quickly.
“She will have a long and fruitful career in this industry.”
Katelan said she decided to train as a carer as a career change.
“I wanted more of a challenge.
“I was so shocked to be nominated. It’s been really quick.”
The awards take place at The National Railway Museum on the November 11, with a Champagne reception, a gourmet dinner and awards presentation with TV personality Jenny Eclair.
