Thieves stole more than £1,000 and a laptop from a Sowerby Bridge pub on its opening weekend.

Police were called Sowerby Taps, Town Hall Street, on Monday morning following reports of a burglary.

The culprits made off with around £1,400 in cash and a laptop and the incident is believed to have taken place overnight from Sunday October 11 to Monday October 12.

A neighbouring restaurant was also broken in to on the same evening, although the suspects made off empty handed.

PC David Mayhew of the Valleys Neighbourhood Policing Team said “I would appeal to anyone who may have been in the area in the early hours of Monday morning and may have seen or heard anything suspicious to come forward.

“Equally, if anyone has any information as those responsible, I would ask they contact the police. Enquiries are ongoing.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact PC David Mayhew of the Valleys NPT via 101.
