SCORES of firefighters descended on Halifax for a training exercise.

What looked like a scene from TV’s London’s Burning was actually a chance for teams to practise using breathing apparatus, following their command structure and rescuing “casualties.”

Nine fire engines from Halifax, Brighouse, Illingworth, Huddersfield, Fairweather Green in Bradford, Shipley, Mirfield and Batley were at Barker Close in Siddal for the training session.

They pumped a building full of smoke to make the situation as real as possible and rescued people inside.

Station manager for Calderdale district Dom Furby said: “We want to thank Pennine Housing and local residents for their support.”
