Chairman of Bridge Rats MCC loses his cancer battle

Hundreds are expected at the funeral of Bez Ellis who was well known among the motorcycling community.

Mr Ellis died aged 54 after an 18-month battle with cancer.

He was chairman of the Bridge Rats MCC, Hebden Bridge, and before that the Dalton MCC.

Mr Ellis, of Brighouse, was a colourful character and known as the gentle giant due to his personality and size - he tipped the scales at over 20 stone and was 6ft 5in tall.

He leaves his wife Wendy, who he had known for 16 years.

“He had always been a biker and was a great inspiration to his club,” she said.

“Bez had a gentle, caring nature.

“He never raised his voice and it was a privilege to be part of his life which I will never get back.

“Everybody in the biking fraternity will miss him and we are expecting hundreds at the funeral.”

Bez, an engineer, passed away at Overgate Hospice, Elland. He also leaves two sons, a stepson and a brother.

He was orginally from Fulford, York.

His funeral is on Monday and bikers will meet at Heath RUFC, West Vale, at 10 am for a 10.15 am convoy to Park Wood, Elland, for a 10.30 am service.
