There could soon be canoes on the River Calder as Brighouse is set to become a centre for water sports.
Pennine Canoe Club will move on to the Rokt Climbing Gym on the former Sugden’s Mill site and will be making use of the river and Calder and Hebble Navigation for training and races this summer.
Club chairman David Jefferies said: “The site gives us the opportunity to run short trips up the canal.
“It should also be possible to put up a slalom course between the weirs and even play canoe water polo on the river.”
Mr Jefferies said the club would be holding talks with Calderdale Council over improving access to the water behind Sugden’s Mill.
